Too Many Fishermen
The Oregon Coast Highway spanned Young’s River leading to Union Town in Astoria with its numerous canneries and old wooden pilings. As a young child I once mistook the pilings across the river for people in the water. That image is what I think inspired me to paint Too Many Fishermen.
Perhaps the partially submerged figures in the densely populated ripples are a metaphor for something deeper, but that is for the viewer to decide.
